<h1>The Mantle Clock and Its Place In American Homes</h1>
Do you have a mantle clock in your home?  Do you know the provenance or history behind it?  Most American Homes have mantle clocks in a prominent place on their mantle, and many of these antique mantle clocks have been  passed from generation to generation.
We have a mantle clock on our mantle. It is not an antique but it is a mantle clock I treasure.  It was presented to me on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of my employment with International Business Machines or IBM as it is better known.  We were given the choice of several items other than the Atmos mantle clock.  A measure of my regard for the Atmos clock I chose is that I passed on the opportunity to own a Rolex watch which was another choice. 
The Atmos mantle clock is driven by changes in atmospheric pressure.  You never wind it, just make sure you have it level with the bubble inside.  It is a thing of beauty.
My mother had a Seth Thomas mantle clock as did three of my aunts.  I really wish one of those had been passed down to me but Mom was more interested in a clock that worked rather than an antique mantle clock that didn't. 
Oh well, at least I still have my Atmos clock and it is unique enough to elicit comments from visitors.
